5 reasons why cruise holidays are safe and unique

Be it a weekend getaway with your best buddies or a vacation with the family, a cruise offers one of the safest and the best ways to spend your holidays. It is in the best interest of the cruise liners to ensure the safety of their passengers and for the same reason, there are several safety norms undertaken by them to help you have an amazing time on board with maximum safety.

To ease your concerns, here’s a look at the safety measures undertaken by cruises in light of COVID-19 -

1)   Regular sanitization

All the cruises are sanitized thoroughly before the boarding process starts and also once before disembarkment. You can find additional waiting areas and floor-marking to felicitate social distancing onboard. The public areas on a cruise are thoroughly cleaned twice a day with industry-grade disinfectants so you do not have to worry about safety even in places with a lot of people. All the linens in the cabins and across the vessel are also cleaned regularly along with the common touch points like door handles, railings, and such.

2)   Stringent health protocols

All the crew members onboard a cruise liner are instructed to wear face masks and gloves when interacting with the passengers. They even have to go through temperature checks twice a day. The cruise’s crew is also instructed to ensure that the passengers follow the safety protocols on board and you can often see them at the deck and other such public areas doing the same.

3)   Safe dining experience

Buffet-style meals which are included in your cruise package are supposed to be self-served, however, the self-service for this has been stopped for the time being and the crew has been instructed to serve at the table. You can even find hand sanitisers placed at the entrance and exit of various lounges, dining halls, and restaurants. Many cruises only get their supplies from regions that are not severely affected by COVID-19 and the culinary use of wild animals has also been banned onboard. Food pavilions, restaurants, and bars are sanitized thrice a day with hospital-grade disinfectants to ensure maximum safety.

4)   Medical centres onboard

A premium cruise has a fully functional medical centre present onboard that is operational round the clock. These are WHO-compliant centres that are able to provide consultation and isolation services if the situation arises.

5)   Additional thermal checks

Thermal checks have by far been the most efficient and convenient safety measures to detect people infected with COVID-19 in public areas. As a result of which, additional infrared sensors are installed at the boarding gate and all the passengers are screened before boarding the vessel. You would also have to participate in these temperature checks when you get back on the cruise after a local city tour and would be advised to have a bath and go through a thorough disinfection process onboard.

We hope this article has cleared all of your safety concerns regarding a cruise holiday. Happy cruising!
